Have you ever had one of those tearful, soul spilling, heart wrenching therapy sessions?
And after you had finished spilling your guts you looked up and your therapist was mute.
Did you assume your therapist didn't have a heart?
Most of us enter the field of psychology because of our big hearts. We feel and think deeply. So deeply in fact that your painful stories sometimes leave us breathless.
We see you.
We see your pain, courage, resilience.
Sometimes there is nothing to say to the heartaches and trauma you've experienced.
So we might remain silent. Just to let you breathe. Just to catch our breath.
Because we think about you. Our heart is not cut off from your pain - it's just the opposite. We carry each of your stories in our hearts.
Sometimes we just need to take a moment to breathe. Don't mistake our pauses as heartless. When you are connected to a good therapist she/he/they are connected to you.
Our hearts are wide open.
